A Humble Beginning

Dr. Ch. Purushotham Reddy, born on July 5, 1949, hails from a middle-class peasant family in Jayagiri, a remote village of Warangal District. He had his primary and higher education in Warangal and obtained M. Sc (Zoology) degree in 1974, Ph.D. in 1984 on “Population of Dynamics of Helminth Parasites in Frogs and Toads” under the supervision of Prof.  T. Vasudev, former Vice -Chancellor of KU.

Dr Reddy started his humble beginning by joining the Government service after completion of his PG as Inspector of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries, erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Later on, he joined as Junior Lecturer in Zoology in the Junior College stream and worked for many years in various government Junior and Degree colleges.

Origin of CDC

When Dr Reddy worked in the government education sector for many years, he was well acquainted with the loopholes in the system and felt that many courses offered were redundant, and out of tune with the needs of the students and society. All the while, he visualized an educational institution that would cater to the needs of the students and introduce career-oriented courses, in which he need not hesitate to carry out experiments to provide quality education in the most cost-effective manner. His dream for the establishment of Degree and PG College in the backward region of Telangana was realized in 1991.

Taking lien from Government Service, he established Chaitanya Degree College, affiliated to Kakatiya University, in Hanamkonda under the aegis of Viswa Bharati Education Society in 1991. These college offered restructured courses such as Computer Science, Biochemistry and Microbiology at the UG level and in the first year itself all the seats were filled up. Our Chaitanya PG college is established in 1993 with MCA program. MBA, M. Sc Computer Science, M. Sc. Biochemistry and M. Sc. Microbiology, M. Sc, Chemistry, M. Sc. Physics and M. Sc. Biotechnology courses were also started. The University Grants Commission, New Delhi, has sponsored M. Sc. Nanoscience and Nanotechnology course at Chaitanya PG College. Satisfied by the performance of these colleges, the UGC has included the colleges under section 2 (F) and 12 B of the UGC Act, 1956.
